FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Canadian Transportation History Up For Bids
TORONTO, Ontario - March 15, 2011 - For over 40 years the Canadian Snowbirds Demonstration Team have entertained millions of air show spectators as international ambassadors for Canada, flying the venerable Canadian-built CT-114 Tutor Jet aircraft. These twin-seat aerobatic trainers were built in the mid-sixties for the RCAF by Montreal-based Canadair (now Bombardier) and adopted by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds team in 1971. One of these original aircraft is being offered for sale along with other historic vehicles at the annual Classic Car Auction of Toronto, April 8-10 in Mississauga, Ontario.
Flown by the Snowbirds team in the 1990s this classic aircraft on offer retains its original patriotic colors, cockpit instruments, controls and ejection seats. Since being retired from service, the aircraft is expected to become a candidate for restoration or a historical museum display. An extensive collection of documentation including log books, complete maintenance and service records will accompany the sale. This iconic aircraft is one of only four CT-114 jets under private ownership, presenting a rare opportunity for collectors or museums to acquire an important milestone of Canadian aviation history.
Examples of other vehicles with Canadian history offered at this event include an original 1966 Shelby GT350 that raced at the famed Mosport circuit and spent its entire life in Windsor, Ontario since new, an early brass-era 1915 Model T Ford Touring that rolled off Ford's Walkerville, Ontario plant and an extremely rare 1956 Meteor Rideau Sunliner built in Oakville solely for the Canadian market.
The Toronto event hosted by industry veterans Collector Car Productions, is the oldest and largest collector car auction in Canada, attracting thousands of automotive enthusiasts from across Canada and the United States.
