Horrible...on dit qu'ils ont subi des brûlures sur 60 à 70% de leurs corps. Je ne parviens pas à imaginer la douleur.

J'espère qu'ils s'en remettront.

Voici une lettre écrite par le frère d'Amanda:

"All, Please forward this letter on to who ever you see fit...

Good morning all. Let me first express on behalf of Amanda, Kyle, Myself and both of our families so many thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes. We are all so fortunate to have such a wonderful support network in all of you.

We are still waiting for updates and it could be many hours, days, or weeks before we know exactly how the recovery process will play out between Amanda and Kyle. I can however report that Kyle was not injured and or burned as badly as reported earlier by the media and is expected to make a full and rapid recovery. I can also say that the updates we are receiving on Amanda are increasingly optimistic and though she has a long road of recovery ahead of her, the doctors are giving us the impression that things are not as bad as first reported and her chances for a full recovery are getting better not worse. The first 24 hours will set the tone for the story ahead.

I also have to extend a very sincere thanks to my brother-in-law Kyle who I strongly credit for the fact that my little sister is still with us. Having witnessed the accident and being on of the first on the scene, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he made no less than five quick decisions in the air and on the ground that gave her a second chance at life!!

When the engine quit, Amanda was on the top wing in the rack. Kyle continued to fly the airplane in a straight and level fashion as long as he could to give Amanda every opportunity to unstrap and get into the front cockpit where she would have the best chance in the event of a hard landing. He also resisted the tendency to turn for the pavement which typically induces a fatal stall/spin situation. He avoided a landing in the pyro field which could have proven to be fatal, and faced with the only other option of land in mesquite woods, Kyle landed into the wind drastically reducing the forward speed at impact. Upon reaching the scene, I noticed that he set the airplane down in the only Waco sized piece of ground in that dense woods that didn't have tall trees in it. Kyle sustained the majority of his burns trying to pull his wife from the wreckage and when his efforts produced no results, he stayed in the cockpit and transmitted a repeating distress call about the post impact fire that had started. I honestly believe this motivated the rapid responders to press through the brush and douse the airplane at a more rapid rate which meant the split second difference that saved Amanda, who was still in the plane.

The first responders on the scene did an excellent job of responding to the situation in a rapid manner. Having a professional air boss teamed up with professional CFR personnel made a world of difference that could be the single most important factor that both Amanda and Kyle are still with us.

Please continue to send your thoughts and prayers this direction because we sincerely believe they are helping. I will pass updates along as I receive them.

Sincerely
Matt"

Husband and wife stunt pilot team in devastating air show crash... and survive

The couple's fathers - both stunt pilots - died when their separate planes collided in a 2005 air show

A husband and wife stunt pilot team are in hospital after a shocking crash at an air show left the pair with 60 per cent body burns.

Kyle and Amanda Franklin were performing a daredevil plane walk at the show in Brownsville, Texas, yesterday when the engine caught fire and sent the aircraft plummeting.

It was almost a case of history repeating itself, because both Kyle and Amanda’s fathers – who were stunt pilots – died in a mid-air collision six years ago.

The couple has pulled off a successful practice session on Thursday in preparation for the weekend’s showcase, but onlookers watched in horror as the plane crashed, leaving a trail of white smoke behind it.

The Air Fiesta Air Show was suspended for the rest of the day as the pair were rushed to hospital. Organisers said they ‘suffered severe burns following the crash.’

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said: ‘The female wing-walker was able to get back into the airplane, but the plane crashed into a thicket near the runway.’

Spectator Audria West told Action 4 News: 'They said something about the engine shutting down, that [the pilot] was coming down at a slope and he couldn’t get back up,

"I actually cried - it was a little traumatizing just to be so excited and then to see that happen. I mean, I’m sure it happens, but it was a horrible experience.'

Amanda, who suffered severe burns throughout her body was rushed to a San Antonio hospital, with pilot Kyle taken to a local hospital.

Just days before the fateful accident in their 1940 Waco plane they call the Mystery Ship, daubed with skull and crossbones, Amanda told the Brownsville Herald: ‘We both have such a passion for flying. It’s in our blood.

Tragedy: The couple's fathers, pictured, were good friends but died tragically in a mid air collision with each other in 2005. Kyle and Amanda said their 'love rose from the ashes of the plane wreckage'
Before the fateful flight, Amanda said: 'If you live your life in fear that something could go wrong, you're not living your life.'

Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport and the FAA are now investigating.

The pair started seeing each other in May 2004, having met at an air show.

They married in 2005, three months after their fathers died in a similarly horrific crash.

Bobby Younkin and Jimmy Franklin were good friends and had flown together on numerous occasions.

But in on July 10 2005 at an air show in Canada, the pair – who were flying separate planes – collided with each other and were both killed.

Kyle and Amanda’s website explains: ‘Their love rose from the ashes of the plane wreckage and their abilities as an air show act are a testament to the ongoing legacy of a family fated to continue dancing on wings of airplanes.’

Their death defying air antics see the couple dressed as pirates, having sword-fights from the top of their planes in routines they call Pirated Skies.

The Waco plane they used was built in 1940 and originally used to train civilians as pilots before America’s entry into World War II.

Dear Kyle and Amanda,

Should you ever read this, there are no words to express how we all feel, and strongly hoping for a speedy recovery to both of you.

We were once terribly shocked when we heard of your respective dad's accident five years ago and now, you are in our thoughts.

Nevertheless, thanks God you survived that tragedy and are still with us. I am trying to imagine how both of your brains must have been racing during those very few seconds in order to manage to its best, such a difficult situation.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Gilles Graton, on the behalf of the French forum Les Ailes Québécoises.
