Mooney Caravan 2009 Preparation Tip No. 1

We’re five weeks away from the Caravan to AirVenture. Since dates in the calendar are closer than they appear, it bears beginning to finalize your arrangements for your trip to Oshkosh. Here’s a short list of items to consider at this point:

1. Order your AirVenture tickets on line by June 30 and save $2 per day or $5 for the week: http://www.airventure.org/planning/advance.html

2. Make your reservation for Madison on Friday, July 24:

Holiday Inn Crown Plaza

Single or double room is $92.00 per night.

Call 1 800-4047630 and reserve under the rate quoted for the "MOONEY CARAVAN"

3. Study the Letter of Agreement for the caravan. The FAA requires that each pilot review it.

It can be found at http://www.mooneycaravan.com/MooneyCara ... 009LOA.pdf

Print a copy and stick it in your flight bag.

4. Plan your escape from Oshkosh

a. Download the AirVenture Notam, or request a printed copy by mail, at

http://www.airventure.org/flying/ (You don’t need the Notam to get there, but you need it to leave. Besides, the note on p. 28 about “Large Formation Arrivals” is worth it all by itself)

b. Get Chicago and Green Bay sectionals and review the lay of the land in mid Wisconsin in terms of Special Use Airspace (lots of MOAs and a couple Restricted Areas west of Oshkosh, and a large MOA east over Lake Michigan) and Class C airspace (Madison and Milwaukee in Wisconsin, and Rockford in Northern Illinois; we won’t even talk about the Chicago Class C). Study of the Chicago sectional prior to our flight would also be helpful in orienting one’s self to possible alternates in cases of an abort during the caravan

5. Pay your caravan fees, including orders for barbecue tickets and Madison lunches, and order your merchandise at the Mooney Caravan website. http://www.mooneycaravan.com

See you in Madison!
